To support the endeavours of the Government of India in promoting the internationalization of higher education, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as a flagship organization, has been undertaking various strategic initiatives over time. One of its prominent initiatives is the establishment of the Initiative for Internationalization of Higher Education (INIHE). Under this flagship programme, AIU has collaborated with EdifyOnline Corp, a USA-based educational research and consultancy organization, to advance the internationalization agenda by facilitating access to international faculty for Indian universities in the domains of teaching, research, and academic collaboration through the University Cluster Initiative (UCI). In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between AIU and EdifyOnline Corp. The MoU seeks to leverage the expertise and resources of both organizations to contribute meaningfully to the implementation of the ‘Internationalization of Higher Education’ vision outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and to align with the Government of India’s broader mission of achieving Viksit Bharat @2047.

Purpose
NEP 2020 has provided a strategic roadmap for the enhancement of education in India with critical attention being given to aspects of increasing GER, quality enhancement, modernization of curricula, appropriate use of technology, and the internationalization of HigherEd. Aggressive goals have been set within NEP2020 to ensure that education in India meets and exceeds global leadership standards. Of particular interest within the larger scope is that of Higher Education. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), India, and Edify Online, USA, are collaborating to enable greater exposure of leadership of Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) in India to global best practices, perspectives on emerging areas, and policies. The intent is to provide a forum for knowledge transfer, engagement, and discussion with a view of catalyzing, and accelerating, forward motion towards the goals of NEP2020.
Composition of the Advisory Board
The advisory board which will work under the aegis of AIU will be chaired by Prof. Vistasp M. Karbhari, an international leader in Higher Education, and will comprise of select members of the following groups:
- Leaders (VCs) of Institutes of Higher Education in India;
- Leaders (or their representatives) of Higher Ed Statutory Bodies in India;
- Leaders of HigherEd associations in India;
- Global (including India) thought leaders in HigherEd.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Board will meet 4 times a year to discuss and act upon the following:
- Identification of key areas of interest on which knowledge transfer (through webinars, workshops and other forum) is needed;
- Identification of high priority needs of Indian HigherEd and prioritized recommendations for their discussion and development of perspective reports;
- Identification and assessment of modalities of engagement and discussion;
- Prioritization of areas and collection of feedback;
- Submission of reports on perspectives gained, needs, and future priorities.
